4 Types Of Equipment And Supplies You Should Have On Hand In Your Loading Dock

Posted on

Ensuring that your loading dock operates smoothly is probably important to your business. After all, if your loading dock runs smoothly, then you can cut down on manpower, get products shipped out more quickly and otherwise run things in a better way. One important part of running your loading dock in the best way possible is having the right equipment and supplies on hand. These pieces of dock equipment are some of the basic essentials that you will want to always keep on hand in this area of your business so that you can keep it running as it should be.

1. Hand Trucks

First of all, if you and your staff members are not currently using hand trucks in your loading dock, then you are missing out on a great opportunity to make things easier for everyone who is involved. With the right-hand trucks, you can move more equipment out of trucks and into the necessary places in your warehouse or business a lot more quickly. Additionally, you can help prevent your employees from getting hurt when moving heavy objects by providing hand trucks for everyone to use.

2. Extra Packing Tape

From time to time, you might find that boxes that are being loaded or unloaded will become damaged. This does not have to be a big deal. If you keep plenty of packing tape on hand in various areas throughout your loading dock, it will not be a problem for your employees to deal with boxes that have popped open or torn. You don't have to worry about wasted time from an employee heading elsewhere in the building to retrieve it, and you will not have to worry about boxes breaking and tearing and allowing items to fall out or otherwise become damaged.

3. Brooms and Mops

Maintaining a neat and tidy loading dock is important. Not only will this help you maintain a safer work environment, but it can help with boosting productivity and making your building appear more neat and professional. You never know when something could be spilled or dropped in your loading dock, but having brooms and mops close by make clean-up a breeze.

4. Garbage Cans

When dealing with a shipment that is going out or coming in, you might end up with a lot of waste. Packaging that has been removed, extra paperwork and other items can be disposed of quickly and easily if you have enough garbage cans and recycling bins close by.
